Description
This attractive and unusual Japanese wood sosaku creative kokeshi doll is from the 1980's, and this sweet girl measures 8.5" high and a whopping 9.5" in circumference around her head. She's wearing a fun kimono that's decorated with a hand painted picture of mountains in the background, and a lake in the Japanese countryside in the center, and an "Akabeko" in the foreground! An Akabeko is a traditional toy from the Aizu region of Japan that represents a red cow. It is made from paper mache in 2 pieces so that the head bobs up and down. She is also carrying (near her neck) a very pretty Japanese hand fan decorated with flowers. There are many Japanese characters in black ink across the front of the kimono. Her happy facial features are so sweet with smiling lips, framed by her hair tied with a red and white ribbon. There are no markings on the bottom. Please see below for flaws. This kokeshi doll is in good vintage condition - hard to find many flaws - and she would make a great addition to your growing collection. White areas are camera glare.
Please remember that this is a vintage doll that may have minor imperfections, such as dust/dirt/dings/scratches/scuffs/age spots.
And please note the size of the doll as the pictures may make it look larger than it actually is.
