Description
MGM Instruments Optocomp II Automated Tube LuminometerFor sale- an MGM Instruments Optocomp II Automated Tube Luminometer.
The instrument is in very good physical conditionvery clean inside, and it powers up as you can see.
Seems completely responsive to the control pad, and I was able to toggle through some of the menu and cycle the tube holder cassettes around.
I believe this is a part number 689-015; I don’t see that on it anywhere (might be on the bottom, I rarely look there unless I can’t find a model number tag which on this is on the back as pictured), but that is the part number for an Optocomp II with two injectors according to the Jencons
website
, looks like they are currently selling these things.
And if you look on the side there are two small tubes sticking out labeled I and II, so I don’t think dual injectors is much of a stretch.
Untested other than as described and pictured, sold as is, and NO warranty is offered.
However, IF you pay the asking price and find it has a problem you cannot live with within 14 days of receipt you may return it.
Returns are ONLY allowed on Buy It Now Purchases.
Accepted Best Offers are strictly an as is sale, no returns allowed.
Return would be for a refund of the purchase price, not including shipping costs.
Just so that we are clear on that, this is an item that has not been thoroughly tested.
As such it may work fine or it may have problems, so any purchase entails a certain degree of risk.
If you Buy It Now your risk is limited to the shipping costs both ways.
If you submit an offer you do so knowing that you cannot return it.
In either case it is up to you to decide whether the risk level is acceptable to you, and if not you need to pass on this particular item.
As you can see it comes with a full complement of tube holding cassette/trays, and a fair number of the tubes themselves.
Most of those appear to be glass but some are plastic.
The printer works as pictured and the machine knew the correct date.
On the MGM Instruments website I found a
page
offering links to the manual, the service manual, and a brochure for the thing, and it looks like they are still manufacturing and selling the piece, so presumably parts and support would still be available as well.
I see two other listings either current or completed on ebay for the Optocomp, one purporting to be an Optocomp II but it doesn’t look a thing like this one so I am not at all sure that is the same model.
And an Optocomp I that says it is automated but the MGM website specifically says the I version is manual.
That guy was asking 00 which compared to a new one might be a good deal, I don’t know, can’t find a price on one anywhere.
So I will start a thousand bucks below that and see what happens.
If you can show me that I am asking more than half of the cost of a new one I will be happy to adjust my price accordingly.

Sold as is, as described, as pictured.
Potential buyers are asked to please make sure you have read the listing carefully, and understand what you are buying.
Ebay’s condition codes for used items, which I am now required to select from, might imply a degree of functionality that my limited time, knowledge, and facilities do not allow me to ascertain.
If the functional condition of the item is known it will be stated as such in the listing.
Unless a warranty is specifically offered returns are not accepted regardless of any implied functionality.
Payment is expected within 7 days of the close of the sale and I need to hear from you within 3 days to confirm the transaction.
Because of the weight and/or bulk of the item I have chosen to let ebay’s shipping calculator figure out the cost based on your zip code.
With increasing frequency the ebay shipping calculator seems to be incapable of actually “calculating”, instead it prefers to tell you that the zip code you have entered is invalid.
Unless/Until they can fix it the only thing I can do is to plug my zip, your zip, the weight and dimensions in at fedex.com to arrive at a shipping cost for your particular shipment.
So if ebay isn’t providing a shipping cost automatically, you can always go to fedex.com and estimate it yourself.
It would be shipping from 27948 in a box presumed to be 30x20x12, 50 pounds.
Please note that it would be rare for me to have a box that size on hand, so I will probably have to go out and buy one and that could delay shipping by a day or two, please be patient.
